A Grateful Artist

Today there is a taste of fall in the air as we get our first good rain since May.

With fall season comes many good things this year - new classes and a new show!

All of my new classes are posted up on the Chehalem Cultural Center’s website (https://www.chehalemculturalcenter.org/adult-classes) and there are still spots available in each class as of today! This October I will start three new classes: watercolor, oil painting, and drawing. These classes will run for 4 weeks as usual, where I will give a demonstration for the first half of class and then the second half will be for the students to create. Teaching at the CCC has been one of the highlights of my life these last 2+ years. It has been so wonderful to see how much excitement there is for the arts here in the Yamhill County. I am so grateful to each student who has taken a class from me - each of you make my life as an artist, not only possible, but so much fun! Classes will continue to run through the “school” year, so if you miss this first round of classes there will be many more great ones to come.

I am so excited for the upcoming show at Art Elements Gallery with Sarah Joy Silva. Sarah is a dear friend of mine, and was my longest housemate of more than 7 years! Even after moving this last year, art is something that brings our friendship together. I am pleased to be in a feature show with her this coming October through December! I have been working hard on a new body of work for this show - all of these paintings will be showcasing (in my opinion) some of the best parts of the Willamette Valley here in Oregon. I will have a few new paintings from my Golden Hour Series as well as some florals and other Pacific Northwest landscapes. There will be an artist reception on November 11th from 2-4pm at the gallery and I would love to see you there and hear your thoughts on the show! For more information on the show you can check out https://www.artelementsgallery.com .

This summer I have spent much of my time traveling to the UK and Montana (two absolutely beautiful/entirely different landscapes) and having blast! However, I am consistently pulled back to my Oregon home. Every time I leave I realize more and more - I love this little part of the world! I love the Cascade Mountains, the lush vegetation, the days out in my kayak on the Willamette River, and I love teaching summer plein air watercolor classes to my amazing students. I am looking forward to getting to spend more time at home in my studio as the seasons change as well. So many paintings and other good things to come!

New Art Classes and Art Show!

Hello everyone!

I have great news to share with you. I will be beginning 2 art classes starting the second week of March, and this same month, Art Elements Gallery will be hanging up my first show in over a year!

We will be using all of the Covid-19 safety precautions and will have small classes of 8 people maximum in a nice large classroom. And of course, masks will be required.

After a year of so much creating happening in solitude, I am so excited to make artwork with you! Please send me an email if you have any questions.

March 9th through April 24th I will be showing my paintings I have created in this last year at Art Elements Gallery! This was my most prolific year of painting to date, creating more than 50 works. In this show, called "Creations In Solitude," I will be displaying some of my most favorite paintings from this new body of work. I am so excited to share with you what I have been up to!

As you may have noticed, it has been a while since I have been able to write to you all! I have been able to keep myself busy in this year of pandemic by painting. gardening, and planning my new classes. But may I just say this, I have missed you! I have missed getting to participate in shows, teach, and talk with you about art and life. With the new art show, the classes, and springtime coming our way, I am full of hope for the future!

All the best to you,

Christine Joy

Exciting Things Ahead

Good morning friends!

I write this message to you all, looking out at all of the leaves turning the brilliant colors of fall. October may be one of the most beautiful months in Oregon... but perhaps I have some bias since it is also my birthday month! This season is just so lovely - and ever so painting-worthy.

I have some great news to share about a couple events coming up, as well as some other artistic things I have been up to lately.

For starters, I have a new calendar available for purchase! I have chosen some of my favorite paintings over the last year to share with you in 2020. I am selling these calendars for $30 at Chapters Books and Coffee in Newberg, but for those of you who read this blog I am offering them for $24 as a special deal if you email me directly! Let me know if you would like me to reserve a calendar for you!

Speaking of calendars, mark your calendars for these two coming shows!

The first show is Sunday, December 1st from 3pm to 6pm at my other home - Chapters in Newberg, Oregon. At this show I will be showing, for one day only, some of my paintings from my travels to Nicaragua and Haiti over the past several years. I paint everywhere I go and many of you have seen my paintings from Europe, but I have never shown my paintings from these two countries that I have so much love for. At the event I am so pleased to share that Halliday Hill Vineyard will be giving a wine tasting to the guests at the show as well! It will be a lovely afternoon of sharing stories and artwork.

The second show is an exciting one coming in January, at the Art Elements Gallery in Newberg. This show, "Endangered Species," will be one dedicated to many of the animals we know and love who are on the endangered species list. I grew up learning how to draw and paint animals, so the excited kid in me is ready for the challenge! I will be showing alongside several other talented artists in the gallery, both painters and sculptors. The show will be hanging from January 21st through March 7th, and there will be an artists show reception on Saturday, February 1st from 4pm to 6pm. There will be more to come about this show in the future!

I know that I thank you all a lot, but I am going to do it again! There is no way that I could be creating and traveling the way I do without all of your encouragement and support. You all inspire me to continue in the journey that is being an artist.

I wish you all the best this day, and perhaps I will see you soon!
