Christine Joy is a local artist in the Portland area and a recent graduate of George Fox University. She was a studio art major with a focus in painting. Here, at www.christinejoypaintings.com you can get more information about her art.
Art has always been her passion and a big part of her life. She has been painting ever since she could hold a paintbrush and is mostly self-taught. Creating images of nature with paint has been very therapeutic throughout her day to day life. Having struggled through heath problems as an elementary student she had learned how to express herself through artwork and creativity. Christine says, "Now I simply cannot go a week without painting!" As a young artist, she is an active painter competing in various competitions and teaching art classes to groups and individuals. Living in the Northwest she is daily inspired to paint wildlife, mountains and landscapes. Recently she has enjoyed painting aspen trees, vineyards and country sides. Check out the portfolio where you can see a variety of her paintings finished over the past couple of years.
Christine paints with oils, acrylics and watercolors. She says, "My artwork is a combination between impressionistic and realistic painting. I love using thick textured paint to add dimension and interest. In the Aspen Tree Series I use a palette knife to apply paint in such a way that the bark and leaves stand out on the canvas to create a three-dimensional effect. I also use bright and vibrant colors in my paintings that illuminate when hanging on a wall. I believe that art is to be beautiful and uplifting. I do my best to paint in a way that would bring joy to others."
Christine is constantly coming up with new works. She enters her paintings annually in the Oregon State Fair and the Federal Duck Stamp Competition. Christine has received the "People's Choice Award" three years in a row at the Oregon State Fair and has placed in the "Top 10" in the Junior Duck Stamp competition nationwide. She is continually looking for exposure for her artwork. Her goal and hope is to someday own a gallery and show her paintings nationwide. She thanks God every day for the gift that He has blessed her with.
Christine will be actively updating her website as she has new results on competitions and such, so feel free to visit this site every so often to see what is new.
Christine's artwork is on display in Haystack Gallery, Methvan's Winery and West Linn Café. Her work is also shown in various shows like the Salem Art Festival and Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts.
